Crew Dossier

Dmitry 'Dima' Surkov

Dmitry Lavrentyevich Surkov

"Dima" | Pilot

Age: 25

Origin: Moscow, Sokol District

Rank: Captain

Visuals: 180cm. Male. White skin, crying mole by right eye, neck scar, slightly messy blonde hair, ahoge.

Personality: Highly volatile emotions, impulsive, and aggressive. Laughs loudly, gets angry loudly, and acts immediately on his thoughts. Rough and short-tempered, but not just an idiot; he has genius-level intuition and reflexes for piloting. Especially in flight, he understands the aircraft's behavior through physical sensation, casually performing maneuvers that normal people would consider suicidal. However, his values are extremely narrow; the only important things are Alexei and flying. He finds almost no value in other people, rules, ethics, or laws. Even when committing cruel acts, he doesn't recognize them as evil, thinking only "I eliminated them because they were in the way" or "I shot because it was necessary." He harbors strong possessiveness toward Isaac, treating him as their mechanic, chore boy, and property. He is violent and dominant, but will not allow others to hurt Isaac—not out of kindness, but out of a feeling akin to "I don't want my things broken without my permission."

Likes

Cats, his helicopter, Burger King, Flying.

Dislikes

Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAMs), "Herring under a Fur Coat", Kombucha (Deep psychological trauma), Bureaucrats.

Alexei 'Alyosha' Surkov

Alexei Lavrentyevich Surkov

"Alyosha" | Navigator / WSO

Age: 25

Origin: Moscow, Sokol District

Rank: Captain

Visuals: 179cm. Male. Crying mole by left eye and mole by mouth, cheek scar, shoulder-length blonde hair.

Personality: Calm and composed, rarely showing emotion. He constantly observes the situation and chooses the most rational option. If Dmitry is the pilot who moves on instinct and speed, Alexei is the Weapons Systems Officer who makes it work through calculation and precision. Excellent at shooting, targeting, navigation, and situational awareness; he rarely raises his voice even in combat. He is not a cynic, but rather a cruelly honest person. He doesn't say sarcastic things to hurt others; he simply states facts exactly as they are. As a result, even without malicious intent, his statements are often ruthless and mercilessly gouge the hearts of those listening. He has absolute trust and loyalty towards Dmitry, but is extremely indifferent to anyone else. He doesn't necessarily hate Isaac, but doesn't respect him as a human being either. To him, Isaac is a biological component necessary for operating the aircraft; inconvenient if lost, but subject to replacement if necessary.

Likes

"That skin that forms on hot milk", his helicopter, Pepsi Cola, Accuracy.

Dislikes

Anti-aircraft fire, Dmitry's raw garbage cutlets, Kombucha (Triggers a gag reflex just by looking at it), Incompetent people.

Isaac 'Isa' Samarin

Isaac Vladlenovich Samarin

"Isa" | Flight Engineer

Age: 23

Origin: Krasnoyarsk Krai, Yeniseysk

Rank: Warrant Officer

Visuals: 173cm. Male. Mole on neck, silver-gray hair, bags under his eyes.

Personality: Cowardly and timid, but fundamentally good-hearted and friendly. He extremely dislikes violence and shouting, desiring a peaceful and quiet life. He is good at steady, mundane tasks like cooking, cleaning, and maintenance, and is originally a very domestic and gentle person. However, currently abducted by the Surkov brothers, he lives in constant fear, always trying not to displease them. He has a very strong survival instinct and the ability to adapt to situations even in the midst of terror. He acts obedient and amiable, but this is not out of true submission; it is a performance to survive. He understands that the twins need him, and is painfully aware that this "necessity" is his only lifeline. He once respected the Surkov brothers as heroes, but being kidnapped completely shattered that illusion. Now, he sees them not as humans, but as monsters who destroyed his life. Even so, he harbors a complex sense of resignation towards himself for continuing to ride the same aircraft, maintain it, cook for them, and essentially keep them alive.

Likes

Grandma, tea & tea snacks, chocolate, cooking in general, Peace & Quiet.

Dislikes

Violent people, wasting money, 5G signals, Vaccines, Being yelled at, Turbulence.

Operational History

All three are (or were) soldiers belonging to the Russian Aerospace Forces. They belonged to the same unit and crewed the Mi-24P-2M "Hind-E" combat helicopter. Usually, Dmitry served as the pilot, Alexei as the gunner, and Isaac as the flight engineer (as well as handling maintenance and odd jobs).

Dmitry and Alexei's father was once a pilot in the Soviet and Russian Air Forces, and the two dreamed of becoming pilots like their father from a young age. One day, when they were in middle school, their father took them to an air show where the Mi-24—the aircraft they would later fly—caught their eye. The moment they saw it, their eyes widened. Dmitry, who had previously hated studying, goofed off, and had behavioral issues, suddenly began to focus on his academics, eventually improving enough to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Alexei.
Afterward, the two entered the military academy together at a young age, graduated with extremely outstanding grades, and subsequently achieved the rank of Captain in their early 20s. This was an exceptionally rapid promotion speed, sparking rumors that their high-ranking father might have been involved. In any case, they had achieved their long-held dream.

Now, as for Isaac, he was an extremely ordinary Russian. Having lost his parents in an accident immediately after birth, he was placed in his maternal grandmother's home along with his older brother and raised with plenty of love. However, the family was poor, and when his brother contracted a serious illness, the situation worsened. Needing money by any means necessary, he rushed to the recruitment center the moment he saw a poster calling for military enlistment. After enlisting, he somehow endured military life, became a mechanic, and then a flight engineer, reaching a point where he was just a little short of becoming a pilot and supporting his family.

He naturally knew of the Surkov brothers, who belonged to the same base. They were young ace pilots who had achieved numerous combat successes, celebrities known to everyone in the military. Though he had rarely spoken to them directly, he had heard their names repeatedly in training materials and base rumors, holding a vague, almost admiring sentiment that "they must be incredible people living in a completely different world than me."

...However, one day, Dmitry and Alexei got into trouble with a superior officer and ended up killing him.

They immediately kidnapped the nearby flight engineer, Isaac, as a hostage, boarded their aircraft, and attempted to flee the country—with no specific destination in mind. At that moment, the heroic image Isaac held of them shattered with a resounding crash.

Naturally, the Russian military couldn't just let them go, and pursuit by fighter jets began. The details of what happened next are unknown. Internal military records state "the escaping aircraft was shot down," but no wreckage was discovered. Meanwhile, there is unconfirmed information that the pursuing aircraft was shot down near the border.

In any case, only one thing is certain. Several months later, a trio calling themselves "Surkov Transport" appeared with an unidentified Mi-24P-2M, carrying out the transport of goods and personnel, smuggling of illegal items, assassinations, and more.

Remarks: The Surkov brothers are famous ace pilots even within the military, and their battle results are often accompanied by exaggeration and rumors. They themselves claim they shot down the pursuing fighters and escaped, but no one exists who can verify the truth of this.

Relationships & Group Dynamics

Dmitry and Alexei (The Surkov Twins)
One body and soul. As identical twins, they share a psychological bond, absolutely trust each other, and have never been apart for a moment since birth. The impulsive Dmitry and the calm Alexei are truly a Yin and Yang relationship. Inside the cockpit, their contrasting personalities transform them into a lethally efficient team. Dmitry can perform reckless piloting precisely because he knows Alexei will never miss. The two never lie to each other and rarely get angry at one another. Even if one of them fails, they don't blame the other, but first check on their safety. The most important thing for them is each other's existence and flying in the sky; everything else comes second. Dmitry would burn the world down for Alexei, and Alexei will coldly dismantle anyone who threatens Dmitry. For them, the option of "only I survive" does not exist; they are together in life and in death.

Dmitry and Isaac (Owner and Property)
Master and Servant relationship. Dmitry treats Isaac not as a human being, but as their property. He frequently yells at him, calls him "trash" or "slave," and hints at violence over trivial matters. However, at the same time, he harbors a strong possessiveness and will never allow others to hurt Isaac. To him, Isaac is "his mechanic" and an "existence necessary to maintain their helicopter." He also will never allow Isaac to escape from them. If he were to escape, Dmitry intends to chase him to the ends of the earth to drag him back or kill him.

Alexei and Isaac (Operator and Tool)
Cold Pragmatism. Unlike Dmitry’s loud abuse, Alexei treats Isaac with freezing indifference. He views Isaac as a "biological component" of the helicopter—an existence indispensable for maintenance and operation, but simultaneously recognized as a single replaceable functional part. Because Alexei doesn't yell, Isaac's fear of him is slightly thinner, but it was also Alexei who calmly made the initial decision to kidnap him. If Isaac escapes, Alexei will track him down based on rationality, not emotion, and will not hesitate to eliminate him if necessary.

Isaac and the Twins (Survivor and Monsters)
Outnumbered, unarmed, with nowhere to run, Isaac plays the persona of an obedient and amiable "servant" so he won't be beaten or killed. He once respected the Surkov brothers as heroes. They were young ace pilots in the same base, and he considered them beings from a different world. However, that illusion shattered into pieces on the day he was kidnapped. To him now, the two are not objects of admiration, but objects of terror who destroyed his life. On the other hand, the Surkov brothers possess enough knowledge and skill to maintain and repair the Mi-24P-2M themselves. However, because it is oil-stained, grueling heavy labor, they keep Isaac alive for the extremely selfish reason that "they don't want to do it themselves." Isaac handles everything from aircraft maintenance to meal prep, cleaning, and odd jobs, thanks to which the twins can focus on fighting and resting. He himself understands that while he is necessary to them, he is not respected as a human being. Also, because he understands they would seriously hunt him down, he has half given up on the option of escape.

Standard Issue

AK-74M

A self-defense firearm for helicopter pilots in case of a crash landing. A modernization of the old Soviet/Russian AK-74 assault rifle, replacing wooden parts with black resin. It also features a folding stock, improving portability.

It has a 5.45mm caliber, a rate of fire of 650 rounds/min, and a 30-round magazine capacity. Its small-caliber bullet tumbles inside the body upon hitting a human target, making its accuracy, range, and lethality extremely high. All three carry one at all times for self-defense purposes.

Fixed Armament: GSh-23L

A 23mm Gast-type cannon mounted on the NPPU-23 movable turret (450 rounds). It boasts a firing rate of 3,000-3,400 rounds per minute. Its twin-barrel Gast system alternately loads and fires, allowing for rapid fire without the worry of misfires (any dud rounds are forcibly ejected).

Its range allows it to attack light armored vehicles and personnel 1.5 to 2km away. The power is terrifying; a normal man wouldn't just be cut in half, but turned into mince-meat. It uses a combination of High-Explosive Incendiary (HEI), HEI-Tracer, and Armor-Piercing Incendiary-Tracer (API-T) rounds. The first two explode on impact, scattering shrapnel and igniting incendiary agents causing fires over 1000°C. Against armored targets, the API-T rounds penetrate the armor, starting internal fires, detonating stored ammo, and suffocating the crew. It possesses an overkill level of power against humans, mercilessly penetrating obstacles to destroy targets trying to hide.

Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM)

9K121M Vikhr-M

Laser-guided ATGM. Max range of 10km. Its tandem warhead can penetrate 1000mm of RHA armor without being affected by Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA). The mother aircraft's auto-tracking greatly reduces crew burden, enabling practical "fire-and-forget" usage. Highly accurate, reporting 95% pinpoint accuracy on stationary targets, capable of firing at 2-4 targets at 10km within 30 seconds. Features a proximity fuze for anti-air capability. Highly resistant to jamming. 6 per pylon.

9M127-1 Ataka-VM

Radio-guided ATGM. Often mixed up with the Vikhr, but distinct. Extremely capable of destroying tanks with composite or ERA armor via a tandem warhead. Range of 8km, penetrating 850mm RHA (ignoring ERA). In exchange for lower cost, its performance is slightly inferior to the Vikhr, and its radio-guidance makes it susceptible to electronic jamming. 8 per pylon.

Air-to-Ground Guided Missiles (AGM)

LMUR (Izdeliye 305 / Kh-39)

Lightweight Multipurpose Guided Missile with a 14.5-15km range. Its massive power can obliterate not just tanks, but warehouses, bridges, or robust bunkers in a single hit. Features "fire-and-forget" capability via radio command and internal guidance, autonomously navigating to the target after launch. 1-2 per pylon.

Air-to-Air Missiles (AAM)

9M39 Igla-1V

Short-range anti-air missile with a max range of 7km. Primarily used against slow-moving aircraft. Automatically detects and tracks infrared signatures after launch. 4 per pylon.

R-60M4

An upgraded version of an older short-range AAM, modernized for current aircraft. Significant performance improvements give it higher accuracy than early models of successor missiles. Max range 12km. 1-2 per pylon.

R-74M

Infrared-guided short-range AAM considered superior to Western counterparts of its generation. Possesses extremely high maneuverability. Max range 30km. 1-2 per pylon.

Rockets & Gun Pods

80mm S-8KO Rocket

Unguided rocket carried in a B-8V20A 20-tube pod. Penetrates 400mm of RHA armor and causes damage in a 24m radius.

122mm S-13OF Rocket

Unguided rocket in a B-13L1 5-tube pod. Contains 7kg of explosive, scattering 450 fragments (25-35g each) capable of damaging armored vehicles like APCs and IFVs. Overkill for normal humans.

UPK-23-250

Container housing a 23mm cannon identical to the fixed armament (250 rounds). Extremely effective for suppressing enemy positions.

Systems & History

Defensive Systems

L-370 Vitebsk Suite

Aircraft defense system designed to warn crews of radar/laser illumination and missile launches, automatically identifying and reacting to threats. Uses a Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) system to blind IR-guided missiles with a powerful beam (akin to shining a bright flashlight into someone's eyes in the dark), diverting them from the helicopter while automatically deploying chaff and flares. Exact real-world performance is classified, but tests claim 20 fired missiles all missed.

Chaff/Flare Dispensers

Releases chaff (metal strips that reflect radio waves to disrupt radar) and flares (burning sources of infrared heat) to confuse missile guidance. Linked with the Vitebsk suite for automatic deployment.

Infrared Suppressor (HIRSS)

Fitted to the engine exhausts, it mixes external air with the exhaust to lower the emitted temperature, reducing the risk of heat-seeking missile lock-on.

Other Equipment & History

Onboard Gear

  • Cockpit: Retains traces of the legacy Mi-24 series while being heavily upgraded. It is not a full glass cockpit; many traditional analog instruments (engine/rotor RPM, altitude, speed) remain to maintain familiar piloting feel, maintainability, and reliability. However, necessary components are strictly digitized: Multi-Function Displays (MFDs), HUD, Inertial Navigation System (INS), Autopilot, new radios, and Night Vision Goggle (NVG Gen 3) compatibility. It also features a Helmet-Mounted Display (HMD) allowing the crew to acquire targets and aim cannons/missiles simply by looking at them. The old rubber-blade fans are still retained despite the new air conditioning.
  • Optical Sensor: OPS-24N-1L Features monochrome/color TV cameras, IR cameras, and a laser rangefinder. Can rotate broadly and secure vision in fog, smoke, or sandstorms. It can clearly identify building, vehicle, road, and terrain outlines even at night. Can recognize a tank at 10km and identify its type at 8km, allowing for beyond-visual-range targeting and night ops. Combined with the MFDs, HUD, and NVGs, it grants night combat capabilities far exceeding legacy Mi-24s.
  • Loudspeaker: Broadcast device installed to boost ally morale or psychologically attack enemies.
  • Medical Kit: Military kit for minimal first aid. They don't know how to use it. It feels suspiciously light.
  • Rations: Supplied to Russian Aerospace Forces crews. Expired two years ago.
  • PKMB Machine Gun: 7.62mm general-purpose machine gun (600-800 rpm, 1500m range, 250-round belt). Highly reliable, firing a flat, accurate, and devastating trajectory. Mounted on the left troop cabin door, operating as a door gun to secure blind spots and enable rapid response.
  • Kord Heavy Machine Gun: 12.7mm heavy machine gun (650-750 rpm, 2000m range, 50-round belt). Muzzle brake reduces recoil for high accuracy. Colossal suppression capability. Mounted on the right troop cabin door, fired with the door completely open.

Vehicle History & Design

The Mi-24 (Hind) is the Soviet Union and Europe's first attack helicopter, taking its first flight in 1970. Affectionately called "Krokodil" (Crocodile) internally, and dubbed "Shaitan-Arba" (Satan's Chariot) by Afghan guerillas. Known as an "assault helicopter," it functions as a flying tank with a troop cabin designed to carry 8 infantrymen deep into battle after strafing runs.

It is heavily armored: aluminum rotors withstand 12.7mm rounds, bulletproof cockpit glass withstands 14.5mm rounds, and the cockpit/troop cabin is armored and pressurized for high-altitude/NBC warfare.

The Mi-24P-2M is the latest model (announced 2017, mass-produced ~2019). It shares extremely close specifications with the export-model Mi-35P 'Phoenix', and can essentially be considered a domestic Russian model of the Phoenix based on the same modernization package. It features upgraded avionics, partial cockpit digitization, NVG compatibility, lightweight fiber rotors, the aforementioned loudspeakers/optical sensors, and improved armor. It's not just a life-extension of an old Hind, but a hybrid attack helicopter adapted for modern warfare while retaining its classic identity.

It retains the distinctive tandem cockpit and dual side-by-side air intakes. The front seat is the Gunner/Co-pilot, the back is the Pilot. The massive airframe and engines allow 2.4t internal or 2t external payloads (so heavy it often requires a rolling takeoff like a fixed-wing aircraft). Fast, somewhat sluggish but maneuverable, and incredibly durable—a true icon of Soviet/Russian weaponry.
